Women's World Cup 2023: Megan Rapinoe reveals the unexpected pop star that inspired her new hair color at the World Cup

The soccer legend is back with yet another iconic look at the World cup

Megan Rapinoe is an icon both on and off the pitch. Aside from her incredible sporting achievements, she's also become a fashion reference, sporting all kinds of trendy and groundbreaking looks over the years.

For the games against Vietnam and the Netherlands, the veteran striker and fashionista led the team out of their hotel wearing their suave single-breasted 'gender-free' tailored suits designed by Nike and Martine Rose specifically for this tournament.

"When a woman wears a suit, it expresses strength, resilience and beauty. I want women to feel powerful in their suits like men do," explained designer Rose before the tournament. "More than that, although I'm using women to tell the story, there's no gender attached to the suit. Anyone can wear it. I hope one day we're not talking about gender in sport and are just talking about the sport. Once everything is stripped back, it's just the game that's left".

Rapinoe's hair has also become a fashion statement it itself, with the player regularly alternating between different colors. Despite going for a purple / pink look for the World Cup in 2019, the soccer star has chosen blue for this tournament. But what was her thinking behind the switch?

"There it is over there, a little inspo [inspiration]," says 'Pinoe' during a post training press, pointing to teammate Crystal Dunne. "Crystal [Dunn] had the blue hair, Megan Thee Stallion had the blue hair."

"Honestly, the last time I dyed it before this, I dyed it purple and it kind of faded out blue, and I was like, 'oh it's kind of nice'. So, I just switched it up. I have all the colors with me, so I don't know what's going to happen," she explains, not ruling out the possibility of dying it again over the course of the tournament.
